How you chose the artists and further, the photographs that are part of the exhibition ?
This exhibition is my reading of what’s happening in Indian contemporary photography. I believe that we are at a critical crossroads, making it important for us to introspect on what Indian contemporary photography is and where it can head.
Why Paris ?
The hope is that exhibitions such as this will help us break away from the conventions stemming from Western photo festivals, which format the photography coming from India to their vision of the country. All the photographers showing in this exhibition have a way of photographing that primarily speaks to Indian viewers.
What is the reaction you’re hoping to get from the audience there?
This group show is an exploration of whether Indian photographers can have a common visual language. I see this as a really good opportunity to show a new type of photography which is mature, simple and close to the experience of to our daily life. We are showing in Paris in May and June, a period when Indian contemporary art will be spotlighted in the city through shows such as the Pompidou Show on Indian Contemporary Art.
